"With all lampeye species I had, the fry swim immediately. Strangely Lacustricola fry need to dissolve their egg yolk first. They just lay on the ground until they are able to swim. It usually takes them a day or two. Eggs are laid where there isn't much water current. Because of the lack of water current the fry can dissolve their egg yolk without being swapped away. The fry can eat bigger prey once swimming, a big advantage for the species. My Lacustricola johnstoni are in a tank with quite a lot of water current, they are not laying many eggs. My friend Andre Wenteler's L. johnstoni are laying a lot of eggs in a tank with an air driven foam filter. My Lacustricola myaposae are laying a lot of eggs, the tank has only a foam filter. So i like to suggest only air driven foam filtration for Lacustricola species." - John Stel, Oct. 2021
